Academic background

I am a neuroscientist and occupational therapist devoted to studying functional and brain recovery after stroke.

My journey began in 2009 when I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy with clinical placements at an Intermediate Care Hospital in Barcelona and a Stroke Unit in Gothenburg, Sweden.

My pursuit of bridging evidence-based interventions, occupational therapy and neuroscience led me to complete a postgraduate course in cognitive rehabilitation, a Master’s in Neuroscience and a Master’s in Research in Behaviour and Cognition at the University of Barcelona. These studies provided me with a deep understanding of clinical research methodology, the biological mechanisms of brain plasticity and the cognitive roots of human behaviour.

In 2019, I obtained a PhD in Neuroscience, which was awarded an excellent cum laude with an International distinction. During my PhD studies, I was selected by the prestigious Junior Researcher Programme supported by the University of Cambridge to lead an international European project about musical activities and emotional well-being in older adults. To enrich my research experience, I conducted a three-month research stay at the University of Helsinki (Finland) and a research visit at the University of Lübeck (Germany).

University of Barcelona
Thesis: Music-supported Therapy in the rehabilitation of motor deficits after stroke.
Grade: Excellent Cum Laude.
Thesis supervisors: Antoni Rodríguez-Fornells, PhD; Esther Duarte, MD PhD.
International Research Internship: Cognitive Research Unit, Institute of Behavioral Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland.
International Research Visit: Department of Neurology, University of Lübeck, Germany.
Supported by the University of Cambridge
I was selected as a young researcher supervisor with the international project “Musical activities and their relationship to emotional well-being in older adults across Europe”.
This one-year programme brings together young researchers and undergraduate students to conduct international projects. My role as a supervisor allowed me to be the project’s principal investigator and lead a team of seven undergraduate students.
Team meetings within the programme were held in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Madrid (Spain), and Cambridge (England).
